Here is another book preview…..coming out in the near future…..Stay tuned!
In the middle of a struggle, challenge, hard time, storm, whatever you wish to call it, it is easy to get sucked into the very thing that is causing our hardship. It easy to focus on the current situation at the present moment. Ideally, we want everything to be going great, going smoothly, and want nothing bad to ever happen. Reality says, that is not possible. What is possible is to shift our focus from the negative to something more positive. By shifting our focus, we create more peace, joy, and gratefulness even in the midst of a trying time. We are able to navigate it with strength and courage which builds more character, strength, and resiliency.
The problem with switching our focus is that we tend to not be aware of it. We have had years of practice focusing on the wrong thing, therefore, we have become conditioned to focus on the bad. The mainstream media aids in the conditioning as well. It can be very hard at first to switch our focus. But what we focus on grows. What we focus on, we attract into our lives.
It does not matter whether the focus is on negative or positive, what we focus on we WILL attract into our lives. A good indicator is the fact that our outside world is a reflection of our inside world. Whatever is going on in your outside world, we have to take a look at what is going on inside of us. The focus could be as simple as “I am clumsy,” or “I’m not good with names.” Many think that thoughts, or talk, like these are so trivial but it is absolutely true. What you say, or think, your subconscious will gravitate toward. The subconscious will seek out what you tell it. When you tell yourself “you are not good with names,” your subconscious will seek out ways to prove that true. It will find ways to remind you and make that a reality.
If you say “I am always broke,” or “I always find the wrong person,” or whatever you are focused on, the mind will seek out, and attract back, what you are telling yourself, and what you are thinking.
How do you stop this? How do you change your focus? First, you have to be aware of it. You have to know what’s going on in the present. In order to know what’s going on, you have to take a look at your thoughts. You have to be aware of what you are thinking and saying to yourself. Your thoughts are a good indicator of what your programming is. Is your programming mainly negative? Is it mainly positive? Is it a mixture of both? Take a good journal account of what you say, and think, to yourself. Take 24-48 hours to note every thought you have. This will lay out a great foundation of your current situation.
Next, you have to begin taking out the old, and putting in new. How do we do this? We put in things that we want in our life. What do we want in our lives? Better relationships? A fulfilling job? More money? Spiritual growth? Focus on these things. A great book to read is “What to Say When You Talk to Yourself” by Shad Helmstetter. Shad breaks it down into simple steps that can be easily understood and implemented. What we say to ourselves is a great indicator of what we are attracting back.
Focus more on what you want in your life. Focus on any area of life you wish. Do you want more success with your family? Do you want to become a better parent? A better spouse or partner? Change what you say to yourself through the use of affirmations. Here is a good example. “I am not good enough,” can be switched to “I am good enough, and get better and better every day.” You can’t just stop focusing on the negative and expect things to change. It won’t work. Imagine if you take out all your old furniture and put it in the garage, but don’t put new furniture in the house and you are sitting in an empty house. Eventually your thinking will gravitate to the old furniture in the garage. Piece by piece, you will begin bringing the old furniture back in the house. What happens is your old patterns, your old beliefs, settle back in.
This is the same with our thoughts. We can remove the old thoughts, but if we do not replace those thoughts with something more positive, more affirming, something that is going to serve us more, eventually we will go back to our old way of thinking.
Our beliefs, our programming, are formed by our thoughts. They are formed by what we say to ourselves. They are formed by what others say to us. They are formed by our experiences throughout our life. Some of this happens without our knowledge because they happen gradually over time. Some of it comes from growing up and instilled from our parents. The only way to really know what’s going on is to sit back and take your thoughts captive. Are they serving you, or are they hurting you?
If you are not happy with your current situation, then let’s take a good survey of what’s going on in your inside world. Let’s start changing it with thoughts of what you want to create in your life. Switch the negative with the positive. Doing it is simple. The process takes time and this is where most people get tripped up, including myself. I have found that if you say things to yourself enough times, with enough energy and passion, and get your body involved change happens. Science has shown that if you have something you are really focused on, and you get your body involved with enough intensity, and you focus on it long enough, you will begin to make changes in your life.
It’s your turn. What challenges do you have with trying to switch your focus or creating change in your lfie? Have you used some other tips to help you overcome this challenge? If so, please share in detail what they are. Many people come to read this and your message could inspire them!
